Biosketch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Petra Bjelica was born in\nKru\u0161evac, Serbia in 1988. She finished Bachelor and Master studies in Belgrade\nat the Faculty of Philology with the degree in Comparative Literature and\nTheory of Literature. After defending her MA thesis, The Violence of Interpreting \u2018Hamlet\u2019: Let him be<\/em>, she started PhD studies in Belgrade and worked\nat the same Department as a Teaching Assistant on Shakespeare and\nRenaissance studies. However, after a year, she exited that PhD Programme.  In the meanwhile, she has expanded her\nprofessional experience towards cultural production, focusing on content\nwriting, performative arts, music and dance culture. Currently, she is a first\nyear PhD student at the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and\nLinguistics at the University of Verona. Main areas of her research are\ncomparative literature and theory of literature, as well as Shakespeare and\nDostoevsky studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Title<\/strong>: Let the other be: migrations and acculturation of Hamlet in Dostoevsky\u2019s character Stavrogin (LOBHS)

As a research fellow for The INVITE project, Petra Bjelica is working on a PhD thesis about the influence of Shakespeare\u2019s Hamlet<\/em> on the character Stavrogin from Dostoevsky\u2019s novel The Devils,<\/em> through the scope of the research area \u201cThe experience of the other: the stranger, the foreigner, the different, the outsider, the unknown\u201d. Addressing the discursive parallels of Hamlet\u2019s and Stavrogin\u2019s identities, as examples of a radically ambivalent Western subjectivity that is understood as \u2018the other\u2019 from itself, her main aim is to trace the analogous motifs and intertextual references between these two characters. Proposed theoretical framework of her thesis is the contemporary theory of the self (Jacques Lacan, Paul Ric\u0153ur), arguing that most of these crucial features can be traced in Hamlet\u2019s and Stavrogin\u2019s subjectivity as well.
