This is the best way to celebrate this day: to reflect on the results \u00a0already achieved and what needs to be done to ensure the widest participation of women in research and innovation.<\/p>\n<h2>The situation in Europe<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2003 the European Commission monitors the gender balance in research and innovation and every third year publishes a report titled \u201cShe Figures\u201d. The last issue was \u201cShe Figures 2015\u201d: you can download a <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.europa.eu\/en\/publication-detail\/-\/publication\/28d51df8-284c-474e-be68-64a0c2929cec\">short brochure<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.europa.eu\/en\/publication-detail\/-\/publication\/f546dfed-41a9-11e6-af30-01aa75ed71a1\">full report<\/a> on EU Bookshop. The new issue should be published this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe Figures\u201d is plenty of information and analysis. Here are some facts about doctoral programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know how many PhD graduate are women in Europe? In particular, the evaluators will be instructed to take into account these delayed graduations and any break in the candidate\u2019s academic path.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, where two candidates receive the same final score and are equally suitable for a PhD position, the <strong>candidate of the underrepresented gender<\/strong> in the research discipline will be given priority.<\/p>\n<h2>A person to ensure the equal opportunities<\/h2>\n<p>Prof Alessandra Cordiano has been appointed as a member of the INVITE Steering Committee as representative of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the University of Verona. Her task is to <strong>ensure that gender equality is maintained<\/strong> wherever possible during the project.
