Graduate School: Life and Health Sciences
PhD programme: Applied Life and Health Sciences
Application Deadline: 16 April 2018
Start Date: 1st October 2018
Duration: 36 months
The PhD course aims to make the students able to unravel and analyze the spectrum of factors and the biological pathways associated with the etiopathogenic mechanisms of monogentic and complex traits, and infectious diseases.
The course is arranged into 3 curricula:
- Genomics
This curriculum focuses on RNA metabolism, large scale genomics and epigenomics (methylation and gene expression) and other ‘omics’ using high-throughput technologies to drive downstream interpretation of big data through a host of integrative analyses and functional approaches, and to develop tools for genome engineering using CRISPR-Cas9 system.
- Epidemiology-biostatistics
This curriculum aims to apply advanced statistical methods to properly design epidemiological studies and to analyze the interaction of causal and casual factors associated with the socio-economic impact and risks of disease. The ongoing studies focus on respiratory and allergic diseases.
- Microbiology and Infectious diseases:
This curriculum includes several microbiology research topics including the study of the source of antibiotic resistance in the environment and in the health-care centers, the virus-host interaction and the development of new methods for the paleomicrobiology. The infection diseases part aims to develop and apply health-care and epidemiology methods to study the strength of the effects of therapeutic drugs and to analyze the socio-demographic characteristics of groups of individuals affected or at high risk to be affected by infectious diseases.
Applications are invited in one of the three curricula above.
